Jazz Vocalist Sandra Dudley and pianist Lori Mechem have joined forces to record a tribute CD celebrating the music and lyrics of legendary songwriters Alan and Marilyn Bergman.

This project was conceived after the Bergman’s made a rare appearance to the Jazz Cave September 2011 to hear a concert of their songs performed by a NJW Vocal Class. “That night changed many lives, especially ours”, said Mechem. “When Sandra and I decided to record an entire CD of Bergman songs, everything started to fall into place. I contacted Alan and Marilyn to see if they had any songs that had never been recorded. They sent us several to consider, two of which are on this project, MOZART IN THE DARK and BEING WITHOUT YOU.” Alan and Marilyn Bergman state that “among the great pleasures and rewards of songwriting is hearing one’s songs performed with the respect and love that Sandra and Lori brought to this CD! Some of these songs have never been recorded and some have many recordings, but all are sung and played here with such freshness and keen jazz sensibility.”

Produced by Roger Spencer, all musical selections were arranged by Lori Mechem, with the exception of “Summer Me, Winter Me”, which was arranged by Bruce Dudley. “As we rehearsed for this project, it became very clear from the first note how easy and comfortable it was going to be. We understood each other and we understood what the songs were really about” said Dudley.

“All of my Life” contains 14 tracks including; “Love Like Ours”, “Kisses”, “What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?”, “Summer Me, Winter Me”, “Moonlight”, “I Have the Feeling I’ve Been Here Before”, “Mozart in the Dark”, “What Matters Most”, “The Summer Knows”, “Like a Lover”, “Being Without You”, “How Do You Keep the Music Playing”?, “Alone in the World”, “You Must Believe in Spring”. Quote from Alan and Marilyn: "Among the great pleasures and rewards of songwriting is hearing one's songs performed with the respect and love that Sandra and Lori brought to this CD! Some of these songs have never been recorded and some have many recordings, but all are sung and played here with such freshness and keen jazz sensibility. Thank you both, Lori and Sandra!" Love Alan and Marilyn

The concept of this music collection is quite simple. It is about the process of life, where we begin, childhood, learning, innocence, love, family and where we end, love lost, aging, reflection and rebirth. As you listen to the tunes, reflect and see what comes to your mind first. Let your heart find it’s way to the soul of the song. Here are a few meditation ideas for some of the tunes. The other titles need no illumination.

“The Journey Home” is about leaving the physical earth and returning to the heavenly kingdom from where we began.

“Serenade for a Child” is a beautiful lullaby about starting life anew.

“How Will I Know” is about our wise council inside us, our gut feeling.

“Teach Me To Love” is about the innocence of a new love. Meditate and open your heart!

“One Last Time” is a reflection and celebration of all the skills that one has mastered during their lifetime. Dedicated to Elyse Adler.

“Old Souls” is about when we return to a new life and meet someone who is very familiar, a possible soul mate. Dedicated to my soul mate, Ron Browning.
